Vastu Shastra

Vastu shastra

VASTU SHASTRA (Sanskrit for the science of architecture’) is a system of architecture that was developed by ancient Indian architects and engineers. The term refers to a set of rules, guidelines, principles, practices, and theories pertaining to the construction and design of houses, temples, and other buildings. According to this system, every building has its own unique energy field and should be constructed accordingly.

It also states that a house should ideally have 4 sides – North East West South and all four directions are equally important. Vastu Shastra uses natural materials like stone, bricks, etc., according to the local climate conditions. They believe that these elements and their placement influence people’s health and well-being.

The idea behind Vastu Shastras is based on the observation that everything in nature is composed of three basic elements – Ether, Water, and Earth. These are present in different proportions in different parts of our body and in different kinds of surroundings.

For instance, water is heavier than earth and it tends to sink in water bodies whereas earth floats in the air.

Similarly, when we walk along paved roads, our feet tend to sink into the ground, while our heads remain above the road surface. We get influenced by the surrounding environment due to these differences in weight and buoyancy. Vastu Shashtra believes that if the balance between these three components is disturbed then there can be various disorders or diseases.

Hence, they advocate that certain arrangements must be made so as to maintain the balance. These arrangements include the proper arrangement of rooms and spaces within the house, the position of doors, windows, and other openings, positioning of furniture, etc. The main aim of such guidelines is to create an atmosphere that is conducive to mental peace, calmness, and harmony.

Vastu shastra for home designs

If you take a look around your residential area, you will see that nearly every house faces south. This is mostly because the majority of them were built a long time ago when builders did not know much about Vastu shastra. So they followed simple ancient traditions which were based only on personal experiences. Later on, Vastu experts came up with more scientific ways of designing homes with a view to harmonizing human life with nature and creating a better environment.

Today, most architects follow modern Vastu Shastra and apply it to new projects. Some others prefer traditional methods since they think that newer systems may cause damage to existing structures. Either way, they do use the guidelines laid down by Vastu shastra to develop their concepts. When planning the layout of a home, it becomes very essential to consider the impact the space will make on those who occupy it.

For instance, it’s preferable to install toilets facing east as it gives one a feeling of purity and cleanliness. Architects often give importance to the following aspects:

Airflow. The best place to build a house is where there is free circulation of wind. Air passes through the entire structure thus allowing fresh air inside the room. However, it is advisable to avoid placing windows over doorways. Windows should always be placed at least 3 meters away from any wall that abuts upon them.

Light. Most people spend the majority of their day indoors. Therefore, it makes sense to ensure that the light enters the room from all directions. It is important to have sufficient natural lighting. If possible it would also be ideal if natural sunlight could enter directly through the window rather than coming indirectly via the skylight.

Skylights should never be located over entryways and doorways since it causes the interior to become dark and gloomy.

Sunlight. People working outdoors during the day require sunlight to help regulate their biological clocks. Since many modern homes lack adequate natural lighting, there are several ways that it can be introduced.

One option is to open skylights throughout the house. Another is to locate solar panels either outside or in the attic. Solar energy generated can be used to illuminate the interior. Last but not the least, one can simply add glass

Security is a prime concern, especially in urban areas. With so many people living close to each other, it becomes quite difficult to provide each person with his/her own plot of land to live in. In such circumstances, it is imperative that houses are properly designed to provide shelter to occupants. They should also be designed to allow easy access for police and firefighters. Houses should be planned so as to provide maximum protection against fire and earthquakes.

Efficiency. Modern technology has led to a number of improvements in the fields of efficiency and sustainability. Designing houses using this concept is a major step towards reducing pollution and conserving resources.

There are now some techniques to increase water conservation. For example, rainwater harvesting facilities can collect excess rainfall and store it underground. It can then be released when needed to keep the garden watered. Proper ventilation reduces strain on heating units and the need to run appliances unnecessarily.

Vastu Shastras in India

The study of Vastu Shastrakaran dates back thousands of years in Indian history, with an origin attributed to the Vedic period. According to historians, Vastu Shastra was developed in the pre-Vedic period in the northwest part of India, known today as the Punjab region and adjoining parts. Ancient Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Chinese, Arabs, Persians, and other nations had a similar practice of building their dwelling places after studying

A Vastu Shastra is like a blueprint of its surroundings which gives instructions regarding how to design both our homes and offices. Proper planning will help you to make your home beautiful and comfortable!

People who wish to invest in real estate must first consult a renowned architect before they embark on making plans for their housing. This is required because even though realtors may offer services that help buyers choose among available properties, they cannot guarantee a perfect match between buyers’ needs and seller’s offerings unless certain basics of Vastu Shashtra are followed correctly.

Vastu Shastras are based on the principle that everything in nature gets influenced by gravitational forces. Hence, all buildings are orientated relative to the cardinal points and the compass. The orientation of windows, doors, corridors, etc., has a significant impact on the overall health of a building. Vastu Shastrikarans recommend placing windows on the south side of a room along with putting a clock inside the window facing the East direction.

Another important aspect of Vastu Shastras deals with the placement of furniture. Placing chairs on the Northwest wall is recommended in the case of the house where the majority of the household activities take place. Similarly, if children spend most of the time in the dining room, it is advisable to arrange the dining table accordingly. If the family spends more than half of their time sleeping at night, beds must be located near the South West corner of the house.

One of the best aspects of Vastu Shasta karaka is that it helps us avoid the disasters that are likely to affect us due to bad Fengshui. Vastu Shasta Karakan can enable us to live peacefully within the walls of our own homes.
